# Account Setup and Platform Onboarding in Nebula

> Create your Nebula account and complete the one-time AI platform onboarding chat that sets up your profile before you can start any simulation.

Before you can run a simulation in Nebula, you need two things: an account and a completed platform onboarding. Account creation takes under a minute. Platform onboarding is a short AI-guided conversation that captures your background and preferences — it happens once and takes about two to three minutes to finish.

## Creating an account

To sign up, provide three pieces of information:

* **Email address** — used to log in and receive notifications
* **Password** — minimum 8 characters
* **Display name** — the name Nebula uses to address you inside simulations (maximum 80 characters)

Your display name appears in AI onboarding conversations and in your session reports. Choose something you're comfortable seeing in a professional context.

### Guest access

If you want to try Nebula before creating a permanent account, you can select **Continue as guest**. Guest access creates a temporary account with no email or password required. You can explore the platform and run simulations, but your progress and session history won't be saved permanently.

<Note>
  To keep your skill history, XP, and session replays across visits, create a full account. Guest data is not transferable to a registered account.
</Note>

## Platform onboarding

Platform onboarding is a one-time AI chat flow that runs immediately after you create your account. It sets up your Nebula profile so the simulation engine can personalize your experience from the start.

<Warning>
  You must complete platform onboarding before you can start any simulation. This is enforced by the platform — the "Start simulation" button remains locked until onboarding is finished.
</Warning>

### What platform onboarding covers

The AI guides you through three topics:

**1. Preferred domain**

Choose the professional domain you want to focus on:

* Product Management
* Marketing
* Data Analysis
* Consulting

Your preferred domain influences which companies and roles Nebula surfaces first, but you're not locked to it — you can explore other domains in any session.

**2. Experience level**

Tell Nebula where you are in your career:

| Level     | Who it's for                          |
| --------- | ------------------------------------- |
| Student   | Currently studying, pre-career        |
| Junior | Early career, 0–2 years of experience |
| Mid-level | 2–5 years of experience               |
| Senior    | 5+ years of experience                |
| Executive | Leadership or C-suite level           |

Nebula uses your experience level to calibrate scenario difficulty and role assignments in simulations.

**3. User type**

Indicate whether you're a **student** or a **professional**. This affects how the AI onboarding coordinator frames scenarios and feedback during simulations.

### How to complete platform onboarding

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start the onboarding chat">
    After signing up, the platform onboarding chat opens automatically. The AI will greet you and begin asking questions. You don't need to do anything special to start it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Answer the assessment questions">
    Respond to each question in the chat. The conversation covers your preferred domain, experience level, and user type. You can answer in natural language — the AI interprets your responses and confirms what it captures.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and confirm your profile">
    Once the AI has collected all three pieces of information, it will summarize what it has captured. Review the summary for accuracy.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete onboarding">
    Confirm the summary to finish. Your platform profile is saved, and the simulation platform unlocks. You can now browse companies and start your first session.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Updating your profile

After completing platform onboarding, you can update your experience level, preferred domain, and other profile details from your account settings. Changes take effect on your next simulation session.

## Logging in

To log in to an existing account, enter your **email address** and **password**. There's no multi-step verification in the current version of Nebula.

If you've lost access to your account, use the **Forgot password** link on the login page.
