# Email App: Communicate in Your Simulation

> Send, receive, draft, and organize emails with AI personas and stakeholders inside your Nebula simulation using the built-in email client.

The Email app is a fully simulated email client built into your Nebula workspace. You use it to communicate with the AI personas, colleagues, and stakeholders who populate your scenario. Emails you send can trigger responses, unlock new information, and move your scenario forward — making how and when you communicate a meaningful part of the simulation.

## Mailbox folders

Your mailbox is organized into six folders:

| Folder      | Purpose                                                 |
| ----------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Inbox** | Incoming messages from personas and the scenario engine |
| **Sent** | Emails you have sent |
| **Drafts** | Saved drafts not yet sent |
| **Junk** | Emails marked as junk |
| **Archive** | Messages you have archived for reference |
| **Trash**   | Deleted emails                                          |

## Reading emails

When you open the Email app, your inbox loads automatically. Select any message to read its full content. Messages are grouped into threads, so you can follow a full conversation in context.

Opening a message marks it as read. You can also manually toggle the read status from the message toolbar.

## Composing and sending emails

    Click **Compose** in the left sidebar to open a new message.

  </Step>
</Steps>

</Note>

## Replying to an email

To reply to a message, open it and click the **Reply** button in the message toolbar. Your reply is pre-addressed to the sender and linked to the original thread. You can also **Forward** a message to another contact.

## Updating emails

You can update individual emails using the message toolbar:

* **Mark as read / unread** — toggle the read state
* **Star** — flag an email for quick reference
* **Move to folder** — move the message to any folder, including Archive or Trash
* **Restore** — move an archived or deleted message back to your inbox

## Bulk actions

To act on multiple emails at once, check the boxes next to messages in the list view. A bulk action toolbar appears with the following options:

| Action        | What it does                          |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| `mark_read`   | Marks selected emails as read         |
| `mark_unread` | Marks selected emails as unread       |
| `star`        | Stars selected emails                 |

| `restore` | Restores emails from Trash or Archive |
| `move`        | Moves emails to a specific folder     |

## Contact types

Every sender and recipient in your mailbox has a contact type that tells you who they are in the simulation:

| Type        | Description                                                           |
| ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `character` | An AI persona in your scenario — a colleague, manager, or stakeholder |
| `system` | An automated message from the scenario engine |
| `external`  | A contact outside your simulated organization                         |
| `self`      | You                                                                   |

<Tip>
  AI personas with the `character` contact type may reply to your emails. Their responses are generated based on your scenario context and their defined personality. Thoughtful, well-reasoned emails tend to produce more useful and realistic replies — and drive your scenario forward more effectively.

## Searching your mailbox

Use the search bar at the top of the message list to filter by sender name, email address, recipient, subject, or body content.
